Best practices in modern communications
Communication can be thought of as the imparting of information – in fact this is the first definition for the word in the Concise Oxford Dictionary. But a one-way flow of data or information, for the most part, won’t help us achieve success in our business or personal communications.
To arrive at a better understanding let us borrow from the second definition: a means of connecting different places, such as a door, passage, road or railway.
Translated into human terms, communication is a means of connecting people. The symbolic door, or passage, is the external form of the communication – be it a personal encounter, a web site, a pamphlet, a video, a logo, etc. What passes through the conduit is what concerns us here, for it is by paying attention to content and style that powerful business communications are created.
